ABSTRACT

From the 1960s onwards, the figure of the theatre actor underwent a profound transformation, disrupting a long-standing unity that had, by and large, withstood the upheavals of the historical avant-gardes and the first major phase of theatrical reform. This rupture generated an unprecedented diversification of acting practices, extending beyond the canonical tripartite division into institutional theatre, the neo-avant-garde, and the third theatre. The apparent restoration of the 1980s did not, in fact, alter this condition; rather than producing the reductio ad unum anticipated by many, it rearticulated and revitalised pluralism on partly new foundations, commensurate with the ongoing postdramatic and performative turn. For several years, I have sought to navigate the complex and diffuse landscape of post-twentieth-century acting practices, distinguishing between expressive typologies and modes of production. In this renewed enquiry, after examining a number of key concepts (reality, presence, performance), I identify the most significant phenomena—not solely from an artistic standpoint—in the figure of the neo-performer, on the one hand, and in that of the non-actor, on the other; the latter is, in turn, differentiated into the social actor and the witness actor.

BIOGRAFIA

Marco De Marinis, già professore ordinario di Discipline teatrali nell'Università di Bologna,  dal 2004 al 2017 vi  ha diretto il Centro Teatrale “La Soffitta”.  Nel 1999 ha fondato la rivista “Culture Teatrali”, giunta ora al numero 33. Ha insegnato in numerose università  straniere ed è stato membro dell'équipe scientifica  dell'ISTA, International School of Theatre Anthropology, diretta da Eugenio Barba. Attualmente cura un blog di cultura teatrale per Il Fatto Quotidiano online.
