Il testo fu pubblicato sul «London Magazine, or Gentleman's Monthly Intelligencer» in tre saggi - Essay I, Essay II, Essay III and last - apparsi rispettivamente nei mesi di agosto, settembre e ottobre del 1770.

Il titolo Remarks on the Profession of a Player appare solo all'inizio del primo saggio. Ciascun saggio riporta anche il titolo On the Profession of a Player.
Gli ultimi due saggi fanno parte della rubrica "The British Theatre".
