Con la pubblicazione di questo testo e delle successive Dissertations on Theatrical Subjects (1756) (vedi), Cibber intendeva contestare il monopolio dei teatri patentati, conducendo un pesante attacco, sia dal punto di vista personale che professionale, nei confronti di Garrick, allora manager del Drury Lane.

EDIZIONI SUCCESSIVE:
L'Epistle sarà inclusa nell'appendice dell'edizione del 1756 delle Dissertations.
I due testi verranno pubblicati insieme nelle seguenti edizioni:
